Fall Events in Destin and 30A

August 22, 2022

It’s that time of year when the summer heat starts to mellow, and the Gulf Coast weather reaches near-perfect temperatures. It’s no wonder the fall season is one of the most popular times to visit 30A & Destin, not only for the glorious weather but for all of the lively events and activities the area has to offer. Whether you’re craving local seafood at the Seafood Festival or looking to venture out on the open waters for the Fishing Rodeo, there is no shortage of options for an exciting vacation for the whole family. We’ve created the ultimate event guide for your fall beach getaway.

Destin Seafood Festival

It is foodie tradition to only eat oysters in months ending in the letter “r,” and the Destin Seafood Festival held October 6-9 has no shortage of shellfish, not to mention live music, art, and activities for visitors of all ages. Nearly 60,000 people congregate at Destin Harbor Boardwalk to sample local offerings from over 110 food and craft vendors and celebrate the city of Destin. The festival is a fundraiser for the Destin Charter Boat Association, a nonprofit that provides valuable contributions to the city, including Advocacy for Fisheries Management. Admission is free but what makes this festival even more exciting is that it is the kick-off to the Destin Fishing rodeo that takes place the entire month of October!

Destin Fishing Rodeo

The words “fishing” and “rodeo” in the same sentence may sound surprising, but once you experience the Destin Fishing Rodeo, you won’t ever question it again. This annual month-long event is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and has earned its way as a nationally recognized fishing tournament. The Destin Fishing Charter Services provide top-of-the-line boats to anglers entering the contest and is open to all experience levels, whether you’re a first-timer or an expert. Weigh-ins are from 10 AM till 7 PM daily at AJ’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar located on the Destin Harbor, so bring your polarized sunglasses and your A-game and join the competition!

Fall Flicks Golf Cart Drive-In

A beach vacation wouldn’t be complete without some retro activities. The outdoor movie drive-in at Grand Boulevard in Sandestin is the perfect way to spend a nostalgic fall evening. Golf carts are encouraged, so get there early to claim your spot and enjoy a pre-show happy hour at one of the nearby participating restaurants, including Cantina Laredo, Tommy Bahama, or Emeril’s. The event is every Tuesday in October and is part of the month-long Autumn In Motion Celebration at Grand Boulevard. Travel back in time with classics like Rudy, Hocus Pocus & Ghostbusters, and help yourself with the free popcorn they offer. Showtime begins at sunset.

Barktoberfest

Family fun should always include our favorite furry friends, and Barktoberfest will provide a memorable autumn outing. Attendees & pets are encouraged to dress in costume for a chance to win the “Pet & Parent Matching Costume” contest, so come dressed to impress in your spookiest attire. Light bites and libations will be available, and there will be raffle drawings with a variety of prizes as well as lawn games for humans and canines alike. The event is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. Head over to Grand Boulevard on Thursday, October 24th at 5 PM to enjoy this memorable doggie social. You won’t want to miss it Dog-gone it!

Baytowne Wharf Beer Festival

It’s no coincidence that vacation rhymes with libation, and we are of the opinion that any excuse to enjoy a quality beer in the great outdoors is a good one. If you’re looking to sample the best local lagers and ales in the area, there is no better place than the Baytowne Wharf Beer Festival. This annual event is celebrating its 14th birthday this year and serving over 200 international & local craft beers. The setting is nothing less than stunning, with the iconic water tower overlooking sidewalks lined with restaurants, shops & lights reflecting off of the water. This event is a great opportunity to learn different varieties of brews while enjoying live music and merchants on the lawn. Kick off the weekend with some fun on Friday, October 7th starting at 6 PM at The Village Of Baytowne Wharf, and don’t forget to bring a koozie!

Sounds of Seaside

It is a rare occasion when Seaside Amphitheater is not filled with children playing freely in one of the most picturesque settings imaginable for a child. Serene architecture lines the grassy lawn across the highway from the ocean, making it feel like you’re living inside a movie. It is no wonder that this idyllic neighborhood was the actual set for the film The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey. This landscape provides the perfect setting for Seaside’s Monthly Music Series, which features various musicians on the lawn. The shows take place at 1 PM on Saturdays throughout the fall, and on November 19th, the internationally trained duo Roman Street will take the stage to perform songs from their album, ‘Balcony Of The World.’ Bring a blanket and plan to grab lunch at one of the many food trucks as well as a beverage from Modica’s Market and enjoy this outdoor concert. You may even spot a celebrity or two.

Halloween at the Boolevard

Celebrating Halloween at the beach is a surefire way to excite the children this year, not to mention a great way to create unique and spooktacular memories here on the Gulf Coast. Grand Boulevard is hosting Halloween At The Boolevard where children are invited to trick-or-treat throughout the town center on Halloween evening and show off their most festive ensembles. The event is free to the public, and complimentary Halloween treat bags are handed out when you enter the kiosk (while supplies last). The festivities will be held from 4-6 PM so bring the whole family to Grand Boulevard and trick or treat yourself to seasonal activities and eerie-sistable fun!
