Vacation Itinerary: 7 Days in Destin (Group Getaway Edition)

October 13, 2022

With everything going on in our busy lives, we could all use a week-long beach vacation, and it doesn’t get any better than Destin, Florida. Perhaps one of the most popular destinations on the Gulf Coast, Destin has more than enough to rejuvenate vacationers with rest, relaxation, and fun galore. Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventure, unwinding on the beach, or enjoying incredible dining and beverages, you may be overwhelmed with enticing options when planning your getaway. We’ve done the work for you here at Scenic Stays and put together the perfect 7-day itinerary for your group stay in Destin. Pack your sunscreen and ray bans, and head to the Coast with us!

Day One – Arrival

There is no better feeling than seeing the ocean upon your arrival in Destin and taking in the saltwater air. Any stress from your travels will melt away at the sight of the crystal clear waters and snow-white sands lining the coast. Your vacation has officially begun, and it is time to unwind and enjoy what the city has to offer, but first, it’s time to stock up on snacks and drinks for the week. Publix, Whole Foods, and Fresh Market are all located conveniently between Destin & Miramar Beach, so we suggest a trip to stock up on beer, wine, and beach snacks before you get distracted with everything the city offers.

Once you’re settled in with groceries and unpacked, it’s time to indulge in fresh seafood at one of the many local restaurants in Destin; we recommend starting the week with fresh Oysters and martinis from Boshamp’s Oyster House. This Cajun-style restaurant overlooks the bay and is known for its fresh seafood and atmosphere, not to mention its signature cocktails which will get you in the vacation mindset.

Day Two – Beach & Dinner In

It goes without saying that your beach vacation priority is spending time at the ocean, and now that you’ve enjoyed a night out, it’s time to soak in some rays. There is no better way to truly take in the spectacular clear blue waters than with paddle boarding. There are a variety of paddleboard rentals to choose from, but we recommend our friends at Destin Paddle Company or Blue Crab Water Sports. It isn’t uncommon to see a pod of dolphins while you’re out at sea, and the crystal-clear water allows for excellent visibility of all of the marine life at play.

After a long day in the Florida sun, you’ll want to keep it simple and relax with a night back at the condo with a movie and dining in. If you’re up for cooking, Destin Ice Seafood has fresh shrimp and lobster that you can throw on the grill. However, if you’re feeling more like having a restaurant do the work for you, have pizza delivered to your door from Landshark’s Pizza (don’t forget to sign up for their mailing list to receive a free appetizer with your order).

Day Three – Brunch & Shopping

It is essential to pace yourself with time in the sun when visiting the beach, and retail therapy is the best remedy for sunkissed skin if you ask us. Destin Commons is your one-stop shop for all of the latest brands in retail, not to mention incredible dining. Brunch is the day’s first priority, and Another Broken Egg will cure that morning craving with their savory hashbrowns and delicious sweet pancakes. You’ll need plenty of energy for a day of shopping at this beautiful facility with stores, including H&M, Forever 21, Sephora, Abercrombie & Fitch, KAY Jewelers, and many more. You might want to set a budget for yourself because it is easy to get carried away with everything Destin Commons offers.

Day Four – Fishing Expedition And Dinner Out

Now that you’ve gotten our retail fix and let your sun tan settle in, it’s time to get back out to the Atlantic and have an adventure. You’ll want photo evidence of your maritime experience, so book a fishing charter and wear a sun visor because you will be posing for photos with your catch of the day before you know it.  There are plenty of fishing charters to choose from in the area, but our friends at Apex Charters have a long reputation for giving the best charters. Captain James Scott will help you catch various species, including red snappers, Mahi Mahi, Amberjack, and sailfish.

Once you’re back on land, it’s time to experience more of the Destin food scene and have an evening out. McGuire’s Irish Pub is on the docket for some steak and beer this time. This Irish Saloon has a brewery, wine cellar, live music, and all the makings for a night to remember. McGuire’s stays open until 2 AM but don’t stay out too late because tee time is bright and early tomorrow.

Day Five – Tee Time

After an evening of indulging at McGuire’s Irish Pub, it will be good to get some exercise and sweat out the remnants of the night before. Raven Golf Club in Sandestin was a stop on the PGA Champions Tour in 2006 and 2007 and is a stunning course full of marshes and pine trees that make for exciting shot options. A day on the course will rejuvenate you while giving you some friendly competition among friends.

Day Six – Beach Day & A Final Night Out

As your trip slowly winds down, it is time to soak up the last bit of sunshine on the beach before a night out. As you may have gathered by now, the white sands and magnificent blue waters of Destin are what attract people from all over the world to marvel at its wonder. Day six is a good day to reflect on the memories made so far and enjoy time on the beach gazing out at the horizon. Remember to bring a book and some headphones to make the most of this day of leisure.

As Happy Hour approaches, it’s time to embark on your final night out at The Village Of Baytowne Wharf for your last bit of seafood and cocktails. Hammerhead’s Bar & Grill hosts a happy hour from 4-6, an excellent way to begin your evening before exploring the many restaurants and shops the village has to offer.

Day 7 – The Final Morning

It is never easy to end a vacation, but the good news is that The Donut Hole will give you something to look forward to. This popular cafe & bakery is known for its sweet treats, which will cure any feelings of sadness as you check out of your condo. If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth, don’t fret because their menu is packed with savory options, including omelets, breakfast burgers, and even corn beef hash.

As you head out with a to-go coffee, check that you have all your chargers and didn’t forget anything back at the condo. We hope this planner helps you make the most of your trip planning and that you come back and revisit Destin in the future. Safe travels!
